STEP 2 – A Disciple’s Journey

Categories: Pastor's Page

First Church,

We know that every great journey begins with the first step.  But every great journey will only ever be experienced if you continue with STEP 2.

We have identified Step 1 in our journey with Christ as connecting with God and each other through accepting Christ as Lord and Savior and joining in full discipleship as a member of God’s church.

Step 2 then involves discovering God’s path for your life by learning what it means to be a disciple of Jesus.  As powerful as it is, God never intended us to welcome Christ into our hearts and then stop.  Instead God’s desire is for us to learn what it means to be in a living relationship with Christ every day of our lives and to understand what it means to live the Christian life.

Jesus followers think differently, act differently, live differently, and love differently than the rest of the world.  But what does that mean?  How do we do it?  Step 2 helps us figure that out.  In this step folks will gain a biblical understanding of what the church is and start to unpack what it means to be a disciple in that context.  We will also spend time discovering the unique passions and gifts that God has given each one of us.  Additionally in Step 2 we will explore what discipleship looks like in the context of First Church and life in the 21st Century.  Anyone who is a member/full disciple at First Church is eligible to be a part of Step 2.

God has made each and every one of us for a reason.  Come discover more of what that reason is as we take this step together.

If you have only recently joined in full discipleship/membership at First Church OR if you have belonged to the church for a long time but have never taken that“next” step” then Step 2 of a Disciple’s journey is for you.

You can take this next step on the journey by joining us for a 6 session series beginning October 3.  We will meet Tuesday evenings from 7-9PM on October 3, 17, 24 as well as November 7 and 21 and December 5.

I am putting this before you now so that you can prayerfully discern if this next step is for you.  Pastors Matt and Janet will be leading this step of the journey so if you have any questions you can feel free to be in touch with one of them.

(Please note: If you have already shared in what was the EFT—Equipping For Transformation—groups over the past few years then you have already completed this step.  If you did participate in EFT please consider sharing in STEP 3 in the spring).

I hope to share in Step 2 with you.

In Christ,

Pastor Matt
